Justine Wiltshire - Teacher and owner of Newton Yoga

Australian yoga teacher, Justine Wiltshire Cohen is famed for her warmth, humor and lucid instructions for opening the body. Former yoga teacher to the US Supreme Court and described as "one of the most talented, delightful and sought-after teachers in DC", Justine married a Boston boy in 2003 and established Down Under Yoga in Newton Highlands. Justine is versed in the Vinyassa, Hatha & Iyengar schools of Yoga. Completing her Hatha training under Pru Kestner, she continued her training under John Schumacher and Patricia Walden, senior teachers in the Iyengar method of yoga, known for it's eloquent explanation of yoga poses, emphasis on alignment and posture and deep opening of the body.

As reported in the Newton Tab and Newton Magazine: "As a former lawyer/international human rights advocate, she can relate to her students on many levels ... Her classes become communities of people with shared passions: "As important as it is to focus and work in class, it's equally important to laugh and have fun. A good teacher makes you love class, you look forward to it all week, you like your fellow students and you can chuckle at yourself when you are getting too serious about it" (Newton Magazine).

Carin Allen - Teacher, Saturday mornings

Carin’s teaching is inspired by the precision and eloquence of the Iyengar method. Carin began studying Iyengar yoga in 1997 with Patricia Walden and was immediately drawn to it as a pathway to physical well-being and spiritual growth. Over the past decade Carin has continued in this training, serving as a teaching assistant to Patricia in weekly classes, completing a two-year teacher training program in June 2007, and delving into practice.

Carin’s interests lie in yoga’s potential to connect us with ourselves: to deepen our understanding of our own nature and to uncover every individual’s true potential. She brings a thoughtful manner, precise instruction, and meaningful sequencing to each class. Her attention to every individual makes her classes warm, inclusive, and accessible to all.

When she’s not practicing and teaching yoga, Carin works for Buddhist publisher Shambhala Publications and is an avid lover of the outdoors.

Mary Wixted - Teacher

Formerly a public interest attorney, the physical demands of motherhood led Mary to yoga. She was inspired by the strength, flexibility and grounded sense of well-being that it bought to her life and fascinated with yoga's ability to sculpt the mind and consciousness as well as the body. Moving to Boston from San Francisco with her husband and two children in 2000, Mary grounded her studies in Iyengar yoga, a method which opened the door to a progressive, ever-deepening and engrossing practice of asana. Studying under Liz Owen, and assisting Peentz Dubble, Mary completed her two year Iyengar teacher training program under Patricia Walden.

Mary brings a warm, sunny and compassionate nature to her yoga teaching and a deep desire to share the practice with others. Her intellect delights in the precise nature of the Iyengar method and she loves finding new and illuminating ways to teach the gifts that yoga has to offer.
