Amy Sullivan discovered yoga after sustaining several knee injuries and surgeries (eight to be exact) as a collegiate-level athlete and aspiring professional dancer. Initially, her curiosity in yoga started very superficially: she wanted to be physically fit and emulate Madonna, but that became a transformative way of life that led to self-discovery way beyond the yoga mat.
Amy is a registered yoga teacher and is qualified to teach children from ages 3 to 93. As a teacher, she draws inspiration from a variety of life experiences and amazing sources, such as David Vendetti and her 10 lb. mutt, Gracie. Her intention is to support her students on their life journey by utilizing the poses and principles of yoga as a vehicle for self-discovery, self-acceptance, and awareness. She encourages students to make a deeper connection to themselves, to tap into their own inner healer, be expressive, and cultivate the practice of nurturing the beautiful beings they already are. In class, you can expect awakening sequences linking movement with breath, vitalizing arm balances, concise alignment cues, light-hearted humor, and free flow, finishing with rejuvenating and restorative poses to shed old skin and make way for new.
Amy received her B.A. in Theatre Arts from Brandeis University. Before yoga, she worked in music, film, television, dance, restaurants, hotels, and academia.
